This candidate is key interface responsible for NRG’s entire retail and wholesale load forecasting operations. The position will entail supporting all load forecasting activities for revenue generating, costing, trading, and supply organizations across multiple markets and focus on load impacting industry/market trends, driving work streams to incorporate these changes to reduce load and earnings variability.

Responsibilities:


- Design framework to identify, quantify forecast variance drivers and improve the overall accuracy of short and long-term forecasts.
- Implement new performance metric for quantifying economic impact of load variance.
- Manage the load forecast performance across multiple markets at the retail segment level, i.e. Residential, Small Business and Commercial/Industrial segments.
- Communication to Senior Management, Trading, and Supply Group of retail electric business drivers and market fundamentals, both macro and micro indicators. Develop and manage an integrated load forecasting support framework for current and future requirements of QSE Operations, Marketing, Costing, and Commercial Operations (Trading & Structured Deals).
- Database industry trends that could impact future load consumption. Conceptualize, Initiate and Drive projects to incorporate new trends/changes into load forecasting
- Provide continuous feedback that enables improvement lifecycle load forecasting, existing forecasting methodologies and/or development of new methodologies.
- Work with external entities like ERCOT, PJM to provide organization’s view on market matters that impact load forecasting.
- Implement new systems, tools, research to continuously improve load research and processing capabilities.
- Guide professional development of team members, ensuring they obtain necessary skills and capabilities to deliver committed outcomes.
- Develop acquisition, attrition and weather impact models.

Qualifications:


Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year college or university with major in quantitative discipline such as Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, Economics, or Statistics. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience: A minimum of 10 years experience; 5+ years in energy industry with a preference toward electricity; Strong - 5+ years of managerial experience. Load forecasting experience preferred. Mass markets retail electricity experience preferred.

- Operational to advanced knowledge of Excel is required.
- Personal computer proficiency with word processing, presentation software and database skills

Summary:
This position is primarily responsible for maintaining / developing load forecasting models, and load variance reporting. Excellent communication skills, statistical skills and advanced knowledge of SAS, R, Stata or similar software package is preferred.

Responsibilities:


- Develop new load forecast models for residential, and mid market segments
- Accountable for the accuracy of the load forecasting models
- Calculate hindsight metrics of forecast performance
- Understand the factors that influence the load across different customer segments
- Make recommendations to improve overall forecasting capabilities
- Interface with various databases to gather needed information for appropriate functions as well as interfacing with personnel who maintain these various systems
- Other work assignments as assigned

Qualifications:


Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or related field required. Masters degree preferred.

Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of work experience in load forecasting/modeling

- Minimum 2 years of data mining, data extraction and data analysis required; SAS, SQL or ORACLE experience
- Good understanding of deregulated retail electricity markets is required
- Excellent modeling skills, detail oriented and able to produce accurate work products. Demonstrate ability to work with and analyze large volumes of data from several databases
- Good Analytical skills using Excel pivot tables, graphs, macros, array formulae, VBA preferred
- Experience with time series modeling of electric load

- Advanced analytical/quantitative skills to conduct forecast variance analysis
