Business Unit Overview

For nearly 200 years, BGE has been an innovator in meeting the energy needs of central Maryland residents and businesses. Headquartered in Baltimore, BGE provides service to more than 1.2 million electric customers and more than 650,000 natural gas customers. BGE's electric service territory is approximately 2,300 square miles, and its gas service territory is approximately 800 square miles.

Job Description

Serve as subject matter expert and team lead in the development, maintenance, documentation and efforts to continually improve the econometric models in use. Provide oversight and guidance to monthly close processes and provide econometric modeling support to cross functional teams evaluating or implementing strategic initiatives as needed. Mentor and train other members of the load forecasting team and serve as a key resource to other workgroups seeking load forecasting or econometric modeling expertise.

This position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Lead efforts to develop, maintain and document load forecast models used to generate monthly consumption and peak load estimates. Identify opportunities to improve forecast models as warranted over time.  Provide analyses of variances and respond to related questions.  Develop and maintain weather normalization process. Provide oversight and participate in the monthly close process.  

Lead or support development and maintenance of other econometric models and serve as
econometric modeling expert in support of cross functional strategic initiatives.

Support regulatory proceedings including development of weather adjusted billing determinants,10-year PSC planning filing  as well as other day-to-day ad hoc requests pertaining to load forecasting or econometric modeling.  Review PJM forecasts and provide input as needed.

Day-to-day planning, training and mentoring activities.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS: 

Minimum Requirements

Education: BS or BA required.

Experience: Ten years of experience in load forecasting, IT, customer service or engineering.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to analyze and model complex problems using various tools.
  • Demonstrated extensive econometric modeling experience and a solid understanding of the drivers related to customer usage and behavior. 
  • A good understanding of a utility’s  financial, regulatory and business practices. 
  • Leadership ability to provide functional direction, guidance, and support to peers. Requires the ability to work independently and in a team environment with minimal direction. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting econometric and statistical analysis using tools including but not limited to EViews, SAS, MetrixND, Excel 

Preferred

Advanced degree in Economics, Statistics, or Business strongly preferred.

POSITION SCOPE: 

This position is the key analytical position in preparing load forecasts that are used in revenue projections, external load projections and the procurement of approximately $3 billion/year of energy. This position has a direct impact on the company's ability to recover its revenue requirement (e.g., ROE model and weather-adjusted billing units).

This position has an array of both internal and external contact relationships: Internal relationships include Strategy and Regulatory Affairs, Finance, Gas Supply and Transportation, Gas and Electric Pricing and Tariffs, Energy Acquisition. External relationships are often indirect, and  includes entities such as the Maryland Public Service Commission, PJM, other utilities and consultants.

Often supports PECOs and ComEds load forecasting group by providing assistance and advice. Recommends process improvements that reduce the time in preparing a forecast, increases accuracy and enhances documentation.
