We are currently seeking a talented individual for the position of Manager, Customer Analytics.  The successful candidate will direct and oversee the research and analytical evaluation of customer load shapes, usage patterns, segmentation opportunities, sales and demand forecasts, customer satisfaction levels and any drivers that contribute to the development of; as well as rate designs, marketing and program offerings for all UNS Energy customers.

Position-Related Responsibilities:

  • To work closely with his/her direct supervisor, senior management, and business partners to establish strategic direction and priorities for the group
  • To direct and oversee the timeliness and accuracy of the Company’s gas, and electric customer, sales and load forecasts. Integrates the forecasts with the corporate planning process. Updates forecasts and analyses as required during the year by the rate-making, corporate planning and finance processes.
  • To define and implement approaches to best understand customer behavior and segmentation
  • To provide rate design support and customer program support.
  • Identify analytics opportunities that will shape the future of our business by explaining methodology to business users to attain buy-in, implementing analysis and delivering interpreted results.
  • Execute long-lead analytics projects that provide insight into future customer behavior and business trends.
  • Work with the business partners to define specific requirements for analysis of customer data (primaries being Pricing, Customer Support and Marketing).
  • Work integrally with program(s) team(s) conducting analysis from forecasting, analysis and research.
  • Develop models and tools for program analysis, customer analysis and business forecasting.
  • Develop statistically valid and methodologically sound approaches to business problems related to Customer activities.
  • Support marketing directives in testing and analyzing scenarios and campaign opportunities and initiatives.
  • Work closely with programs and technology teams to provide views of data using internally available tools. 
  • Coordinate with business users and the database team to ensure analytical projects are effectively delivered on time with proper detail and auditing. 
  • Oversees the development of the Company’s weather-adjusted hourly class-based forecasting models and ensures its consistency with the econometric forecasting models.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of the Company’s load research program and the interdependence with the hourly load forecasting process.
  • Advises Company senior management on issues related to the national, state and local economies.
  • Develops methods and models to predict the impact of weather patterns on sales and load. 
  • Explains deviations between sales forecast and actual sales based on deviations of actual weather patterns from normal patterns used to produce the forecast.
  • Maintains and updates economic, demographic, weather and corporate data necessary to develop the Company’s customer, sales and load forecasts.
  • Conducts economic and statistical studies used by other Company departments for planning, forecasting and budgeting purposes. 
  • Develops economic, weather and other scenarios used for Company contingency planning.
  • Supervises and coaches employees to reach their full potential.  Participates in Leadership Development programs.

Management Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the Company’s management principles, policies and programs are consistently practiced and continually support the Affirmative Action Plan.
  • Assume fiduciary responsibility for operating the business and provide recommendations on cost improvement measures.
  • Ensure that the Performance Management program is administered uniformly and effectively.
  • Comply with and administer the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement when applicable.
  • Administers personnel functions, including recruiting, review and approval of job descriptions and salary classifications, and selection and placement of personnel.  Participates in hiring, termination, promoting, assignment and direction of staff.  Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal laws, regulations and standards, company policies, practices and ethical obligations to investigate, evaluate and recommend appropriate resolution to employee complaints.
  • Promotes and participates in the professional development, personal growth and career planning of staff.  Motivate, recognize and reward, coach, counsel, train; provide feedback to employees during performance reviews.   Participates in Leadership Development programs.
  • Addresses disciplinary and/or performance issues, according to company policy, and communicates effectively with employees regarding corrective action. Has input into the adjustment of grievances and administration of discipline.
  • Plans day-to-day operations, estimates personnel needs and schedules and assigns work.  Evaluate the structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • College degree in finance, accounting, economics, math, statistics or related field of study.  Advanced degree is preferred.
  • Ten plus years of relevant customer analysis, forecasting, marketing or financial experience, including five or more years of forecasting experience and prior employment in the electric utility industry or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong analytical capabilities. Strong skills in advanced math, economic theory, statistics, finance, and econometrics are preferred.
  • Effective verbal, listening and written communication skills.
  • Prior supervisory experience with a demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
