Job Opening at Georgia Power: Principal Forecast Analyst

I'm posting the job for a friend at Georgia Power. The position is open until May 16th. Having been working closely with many forecasters and load researchers at Southern Company, I think this is a great environment to work at.

Description

The Principal Forecast Analyst is a recognized subject matter expert in the areas of Forecasting and Economic Analysis.  Additionally, the Principal has a detailed knowledge of company operations and how the company’s sales and revenues are impacted by changes in the national and local economies and in the electric utility industry. The Principal has a system-wide focus as they interface with Southern Operating Companies and other utilities. They manage complex long-term projects and analyses. They can recognize emerging issues and economic trends and inform management appropriately to ensure these are taken into account in the overall planning process. They exhibit an exceptional degree of technical expertise, creativity, and resourcefulness and are involved in planning and coordinating projects that deal with unique or controversial problems. They often act to uncover and resolve complex technical issues at the company and system level and also often act in the capacity of a consultant to management for shaping legislative and regulatory strategies.  They possess knowledge that enables them to participate on professional committees and develop information that extends knowledge in a given field.
They act as project manager and coordinate the work of section staff in developing the company’s energy, peak demand and revenue forecasts.  They provide input to the manager for performance management purposes.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Project Lead for development of the company’s energy, peak demand and revenue forecasts.
  2. Manage complex issues and economic studies, including multidisciplinary or system-wide projects. Seek out issues/problems and apply seasoned judgment to resolve them effectively.
  3. Provide coordination and feedback with internal customers, serving as a liaison with other business units.
  4. Coordinate development of forecast documentation and information for regulatory filings at PSC.
  5. Provide leadership, coordination & work direction for the team to ensure efficiency and productivity. 
  6. Provide constructive peer to peer assessments and performance input for team to management.
  7. Foster an environment of teamwork, self-motivation, open communication and customer support.


JOB REQUIREMENTS

      Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills Requirements:

  1. Must have excellent problem solving/analytical skills, ability to troubleshoot complex issues and react effectively to changing project requirements.
  2. Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills and a working knowledge of safe work procedures.
  3. Advanced Degree in Economics, Statistics or related field or equivalent work related experience. Professional membership in industry association(s). Leadership positions a plus.
  4. Minimum of 7 years of specific area experience in Forecasting, Economics, Statistics, Project Management.
  5. Detailed and demonstrated knowledge of Economics, Forecasting Methods, and/or Statistics.
  6. Demonstrated ability to build collaborative teams, motivate others to accomplish goals and function as leader of a team.  Ability to provide specific work direction to team members.  Ability to provide constructive performance management input to management on team members.
  7. Models Southern Style.
  8. Self-motivated, customer-focused, and an excellent ability to work well with and develop teams; flexible, forward-thinking, and strategic thinking.
