Senior Analyst - West Lafayette - The Energy Center (Job Number: 1400358)

Description

This position is with the State Utility Forecasting Group (SUFG), with the primary focus on developing, maintaining, and operating a long-term electricity demand forecast modeling system for the multi-state region of the U.S. served by the Mid-continent Independent System Operator (MISO).  The individual will act as the project lead, working with the other analysts, director, faculty, and graduate assistants to develop the models, perform analyses, and report the results.  The individual will provide functional supervision to the Forecasting Analyst and to one or more graduate assistants regarding the development and operation of the forecasting models and the preparation of reports. The individual will also participate in other SUFG projects as determined by the Director, including assisting in the improvement, maintenance, and operation of SUFG's forecasting system for the state of Indiana.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree in Econometrics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or related field.
  • 5 years substantial experience with econometrics and forecasting.
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination and additional work experience.
  • Advanced analyzing, troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of use of econometrics software (such as EViews).
  • Strong management skills with ability to delegate day to day research procedures.
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Represent the University with tact and diplomacy at all times.
  • Discretion and judgment in all areas of research, including choosing methods and strategies while avoiding loss of valuable research time and resources.
  • Responsible and accountable for developing long term forecasts of electricity demand for Mid-continent Independent System Operator.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build work relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Motivated individual with ability to efficiently multi task, work under pressure, handle interruptions and meet deadlines.

Preferred:

  • Ph.D preferred.
  • Public utility or regulatory policy experience.
  • Computer programming (such as FORTRAN or C/C++) experience.
